Exterminate! What we are doing about non-recyclable packaging and plastics

curve-down

Since AESSEAL is a reliability company providing equipment and services that save water and energy and cut pollution, we want customers to know what we are doing to mitigate the impact of our business in this area.

Firstly, AESSEAL plc’s main packaging supplier is certified as carbon neutral.

  • We have changed the specification of our main seal boxes to remove the non-recyclable plastic outer liner, varnish and print finish. This means that all of our boxes are 100% recyclable and now contain the recyclable logo.
  • We have replaced the plastic polythene bags used to double-bag our seals with a biodegradable sugar cane product.
  • We have removed the vinyl from our wooden boxes to ensure that they can be recycled.
  • We have replaced the polyethylene foam in our boxes with Ethafoam HRC foam, which is produced with a minimum of 65% recycled resin content.
  • We are in the process of running down our stock of plastic tape, which will be replaced with a self-adhesive eco paper version.

We are still working on a solution for our bubble bags. At the moment alternatives either do not provide enough protection for components, or they take up too much space in shipping containers.

As far as AESSEAL Inc. in the United States is concerned, we have eliminated the travel miles involving in shipping packaging from Rotherham so that the US team can source their own eco-packaging supplies closer to home. They are already using the Ethafoam HRC foam.

In India, South Africa and Germany we are working with the management teams to make sure they move in the same direction as soon as possible, and we are continuing to investigate the whole group’s supply chain to eliminate plastic and non-recyclable packaging.

It may be not possible to stamp them out completely, or do everything immediately, but AESSEAL and the AES Engineering Group are targeting non-recyclable packaging and plastics.

And unlike the early Daleks we know how to take steps.
